About Rhodes
The Greek Island of Rhodes, sometimes referred to the as the Knight’s Island is special because it has so many experiences waiting to free the spirit and feed the creative mind. Beautiful though it is, there is a lot more to offer visitors beside the
ubiquitous sun, sea and sand. It is a very historical place dating back to the Ottoman Empire, to the much remaining fortifications of Rhodes old town, built by the Knights of St John; to the occupation of the Italians during the Second World War. Dating even further back is the ancient Acropolis. Seated majestically high up on a rock it looks down onto the 17th century pretty white washed houses of Lindos, first established around 2000BC because of its obvious vantage point and natural harbour.
Your final destination is at the quiet, southern part of the island. Gennadi is a small agricultural settlement once described as an untouched working village masquerading as a holiday centre. With the fishmonger visiting on Fridays and the baker producing freshly baked bread daily, it’s about 60 kilometres south of Rhodes Town and its Airport with direct flights from most of the major cities in the UK.
Now next to the village’s tiny museum, the main part of the writing centre was built in 1929. The additional part (The Annexe) once housed the village cobbler’s workshop. Until we took over the ownership, the property was known as the Architects House, always belonging to the same local family. We have since improved its layout and, of course made some modifications but have maintained its quaint rustic charm by keeping a lot of the original features including the Rhodian Kamara or arch and beamed and bamboo ceiling. With its shady vine covered court yard and a 360 degree view of the Mediterranean, the village and the surrounding countryside the house is secretly hidden and yet is ideally situated not far from the lively square; at the foot of the hills which are perfect for walking during the cooler months and still only a pebble’s skim from the clear sea, the vast stretch of pristine beach and local travernas.
